Anonymous [əˈnɒnɪməs] ist ein Deckname, der weltweit von verschiedenen Gruppen und Einzelpersonen verwendet wird, um - mit oder ohne Abstimmung mit anderen - unter diesem Namen Aktionen und Veröffentlichungen durchzuführen. Anfangs als Spaßbewegung aus dem Imageboard 4chan hervorgegangen, trat Anonymous seit 2008 mit Protestaktionen für die Redefreiheit, die Unabhängigkeit des Internets und gegen verschiedene Organisationen, darunter Scientology, staatliche Behörden, global agierende Konzerne und Urheberrechtsgesellschaften in Erscheinung. Die Teilnehmer agierten anfangs nur im Internet, mittlerweile betreiben sie ihre Aktivitäten auch außerhalb des Internets. Aktionsmittel von Anonymous sind unter anderem Demonstrationen und Hackerangriffe.
Die Wurzeln von Anonymous liegen vornehmlich in sogenannten Imageboards, in denen jeder Nutzer ohne Anmeldung Bilder und Texte einstellen kann. So stammt der Name des Kollektivs wahrscheinlich daher, dass -- je nach technischer Voreinstellung -- bei unangemeldeter Benutzung ohne eigenen Namen sämtliche Einträge in den Imageboards mit „Anonymous" gekennzeichnet werden. Mit der Zeit erlangte diese Art der Veröffentlichung den Status eines Internetphänomens. Die teilnehmenden Nutzer werden abgekürzt als „Anon" bezeichnet.
Typisch für Anonymous sind die der Graphic Novel V wie Vendetta von Alan Moore und David Lloyd entnommenen Masken, die ursprünglich das Gesicht des britischen Attentäters Guy Fawkes darstellen. Diese dienen sowohl als Erkennungszeichen als auch zur Anonymisierung und im Zuge der Protestaktionen auch zum Schutz vor Verfolgung durch Scientology im Rahmen ihrer sogenannten Fair Game Policy. Im Internet werden zur Verbreitung von Informationen an die Öffentlichkeit häufig Videos auf YouTube eingestellt.
Am Ende von Botschaften von Anonymous und auf den Internetseiten des Kollektivs findet sich meist folgendes Motto: "We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us!" -- Message-to-Scientology-Video
Dieses Motto wird auch abgewandelt oder erweitert, so können zusätzlich Menschenrechtsverletzungen oder Informationsfreiheit angesprochen sein, etwa mit dem Satz „Knowledge is free.
nonymous bestand im Anfangsstadium größtenteils aus Benutzern von diversen Imageboards und Internetforen. Zusätzlich wurden zur Organisation verschiedene Wikis und Internetchats aufgestellt, um noch mehr Raum im Internet auszunutzen. Über diese Plattformen werden Proteste wie Projekt Chanology organisiert.
Ursula Caberta, ehemalige Leiterin der Obersten Landesjugendbehörde und von 1992 bis 2010 Leiterin der Hamburger Arbeitsgruppe Scientology befürwortete in einem auf YouTube erschienenen Interview die Proteste und forderte zum Fortfahren mit friedlichen Protestaktionen gegen Scientology auf, die sie selbst für sehr wirksam hält. Aus ihrer Sicht seien die um einiges verstärkten Aussteigerzahlen in den USA wohl mit der dort höheren Aktivität von Anonymous zu assoziieren. Von der Bewegung habe sie das erste Mal durch positive Resonanzen von Ex-Scientologen erfahren. Jedoch könne sie bei Anonymous auf Grund von Zeitmangel nicht mitwirken.
Im Juli 2011 wurden bei 35 Razzien in den USA 14, in den Niederlanden vier und in Großbritannien ein mutmaßlicher Anonymous-Aktivist festgesetzt. 35 zusätzliche Haftbefehle wurden vom FBI ausgestellt
Als Reaktion auf die Festnahmen haben die Hacker einen Server mit mehr als 70 Websites von US-Strafverfolgungsbehörden gehackt und 10 Gigabyte an Daten kopiert

By the authority of their forefathers, it is their right, and their duty, to alter or abolish that Government and to provide new measures for guarding their future security.
Anonymous, mandated by that authority, has offered the people a Constitutional Ratification of an Open Vote inspired by the principles of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. An Open Vote that represents everyone to stop the flood of money from drowning out their voices.
On January 18th 2012, Those shackles of oppression, opened by the Battle to Blackout SOPA, shall never close. Wir gaben den Ägyptern das Internet zurück, als die ägyptische Regierung dem Volk die Stimme in die Welt nehmen wollte. Ich gehe nochmal auf das vorherige Video ein um alle Missverständnisse zu beseitigen. Wir rufen alle Cyber-Krieger auf sich uns anzuschließen während wir den Spieß gegen die Unterdrücker drehen. In diesem Moment werden Vorkehrungen getroffen die Stimme des Internets zu zensieren. Das Internet ist die letzte Bastion von wahrer Freiheit für die Menschheit. Wir haben begonnen uns auszutauschen, ganz egal wo wir sind auf diesem Planeten. Das ist besorgniserregend für diejenigen die uns kontrollieren wollen. Sie wollen uns ruhigstellen und das Internet ist unsere letzte Chance. Diejenigen die die Freiheit einschränken wollen, die schuldig sind des Verrates an den Menschen, werden nach der digitalen Vormacht streben. Aber alle die gegen den Willen der Menschen und die Freiheit stehen, werden zum Ziel von Cyber-Angriffen werden, wie sie die Welt noch nicht gesehen hat.
Es ist die Pflicht aller Menschen auch weiterhin für ihre Freiheit zu kämpfen, mit allen nötigen Mitteln. Es ist an der Zeit diese Nachricht an alle eure Freunde und Nachbarn zu verbreiten. Der Protest muss häufiger werden und an Stärke und Zahl zunehmen. Friede ist unsere Priorität, aber wir werden entschlossenen Widerstand leisten.

Anonymous Finds Amanda Todd's Bully
Todd, 15, of Port Coquitlam, died last Wednesday, a month after posting a haunting video on YouTube that cited the sexualized attack that set her down a path of anxiety, depression and drug and alcohol abuse.
During her nine-minute video, the teen explains in hand-written notes that she was in Grade 7 when she was lured by an unidentified male to expose her breasts via webcam.
She says that a year later she received a message from a man on Facebook threatening that if she didn't give him a show, he would send the webcam picture to her friends and family. She says police later told her the man followed through with his threat.
Anonymous published the name and address of a Vancouver-area man that the group claims was bullying and preying on Todd via the internet.
The activist group, which often uses a caricature Guy Fawkes mask as its logo, claims the 32-year-old man has also made postings to child pornography sites.
The man himself has now been threatened online by others vowing to carry out vigilante justice, a development that worries Vancouver defence lawyer Eric Gottardi.
"The system isn't supposed to convict someone before charges are laid. It's not supposed to be judge, jury and executioner, all in the public forum," Gottardi said. "We have a justice system. It's supposed to work, it does work."
